Nickel alloy MONEL K-500 – properties, applications and technical data
MONEL K-500 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of MONEL 400 with significantly higher strength and hardness.
The alloy achieves its high strength through precipitation hardening via additions of aluminum and titanium, while maintaining very good resistance to corrosion in marine and chemical process environments.
MONEL K-500 is often used in components that are exposed to both high mechanical stress and aggressive environments, especially in the offshore, marine industry and oil and gas production.
Properties of MONEL K-500
MONEL K-500 is a nickel-copper alloy that can be precipitation hardened to achieve significantly higher strength than MONEL 400 while maintaining very good corrosion resistance.
The material also has low magnetic permeability and remains practically non-magnetic down to very low temperatures.
- Type: precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy
- Alloy: Ni-Cu-Al-Ti
- Structure: nickel-based precipitation-hardenable alloy
- Designations: MONEL K-500, Alloy K-500, UNS N05500, W.Nr. 2.4375
- Typical composition: Ni ~63%, Cu ~30%, Al ~2.3%, Ti ~0.6%
Advantages
- Very good corrosion resistance in marine environments
- Significantly higher strength than MONEL 400
