Alloy HR-160 – Properties, Applications and Technical Data
HAYNES® HR-160® is a nickel-cobalt-chromium-silicon alloy developed for very good resistance to high-temperature corrosion in demanding industrial environments.
The alloy is particularly suitable for environments where materials are exposed to combinations of high temperatures, oxidation, sulfidation and other aggressive corrosive agents.
Properties of Alloy HR-160
HR-160 (UNS N12160 / Werkstoffnr 2.4880) combines high-temperature strength with very good resistance to corrosive atmospheres.
The high content of nickel, cobalt and chromium together with silicon gives the alloy good stability and resistance in environments where conventional heat-resistant alloys may have limited service life.

Advantages

Limitations
- Higher material cost than conventional stainless and heat-resistant steels
- Machining can be more demanding than for standard alloys

Corrosion and oxidation resistance
Alloy HR-160 is specially developed for environments where high temperatures are combined with aggressive corrosive substances.
The alloy offers very good resistance to sulfidation and oxidation and is therefore often used in demanding combustion and process environments.
It is suitable, among other things, for environments where sulfur compounds, chlorides and other corrosive substances can occur simultaneously with high temperatures.

- High temperature environments with risk of sulfidation
- Oxidizing atmospheres
- Waste incineration and flue gas environments
- Environments with chlorides and sulfates
- Industrial processes with combined heat and corrosion loading
Environments that should be carefully evaluated:
- Applications outside the recommended temperature and process range of the alloy
- Environments where simpler materials provide sufficient performance and Alloy HR-160 is therefore not economically justified

For welding HAYNES® HR-160®, matching filler metal is recommended. For joining Alloy HR-160 to, for example, stainless steel, HAYNES® 556® filler metal is recommended.
Subsequent heat treatment after welding is normally not required.
