INCOLOY alloy DS (Werkstoff 1.4862) is a heat-resistant nickel-iron-chromium alloy developed for applications requiring high oxidation resistance and good mechanical strength at high temperatures.
The alloy was originally developed for conveyor belts in woven wire furnaces but is now used in many types of heat treatment equipment where the material is exposed to high temperatures for long periods.
INCOLOY alloy DS is often used in process equipment where components are exposed to hot combustion gases and varying atmospheres without losing material thickness through oxidation or corrosion.
INCOLOY alloy DS develops a tightly adhering oxide film that protects the material's surface against corrosion in high temperature environments.
The alloy is also resistant to so-called “green rot”, a type of corrosion attack that can occur in nickel-chromium alloys when the atmosphere alternates between reducing and oxidizing environments.
INCOLOY alloy DS develops a stable oxide film that protects the material against oxidation and corrosion at high temperatures.
The alloy is also resistant to green rot and to the formation of sigma phase in the temperature range of approximately 600–900 °C.
