NIMONIC® alloy 80A – Properties, applications and technical data
NIMONIC® alloy 80A is an age-hardenable nickel-chromium superalloy developed for high strength, oxidation resistance and creep resistance at elevated temperatures. The material is designed for long-term operation in demanding environments where thermal stability and mechanical integrity are essential. The alloy is widely used in the energy, aerospace and process industries where reliability is critical.
Properties of NIMONIC® alloy 80A
NIMONIC® alloy 80A is strengthened by the addition of titanium, aluminium and carbon, which enables age hardening and provides excellent high-temperature strength up to approximately 815°C. The material exhibits a stable microstructure, good oxidation resistance and very good creep resistance under long-term loading.
NIMONIC® alloy 80A (UNS N07080 / Werkstoffnr 2.4952 & 2.4631) is manufactured by controlled melting processes. High-frequency melting is used for extruded shapes while electroslag refined material is used for forging grades where high structural integrity is required. Vacuum refined variants are available for applications with particularly high demands on purity and performance.
The alloy is used in gas turbine components such as blades, rings and discs, high-strength bolts, pipe supports for nuclear boilers, casting inserts and cores, and exhaust valves for cars.
