Alloy 20 emerges as an austenitic stainless steel alloy, comprising less than 50% iron, tailored for sulfuric acid applications. Its corrosion resistance extends to diverse sectors like chemical, petrochemical, power generation, and plastics industries. Alloy 20 surpasses 304 stainless steel in resisting pitting and chloride ion corrosion, matching 316L stainless steel. The inclusion of copper shields it from sulfuric acid. Often selected to counter stress corrosion cracking, a concern with 316L stainless, its counterpart, denoted as "Cb-3," signifies stabilization with niobium (also known as columbium).
