Titanium Grade 3 is a commercially pure titanium alloy (≈99.3% Ti) that offers a balanced combination of good strength, high corrosion resistance and low weight. Compared to Grade 1 and 2, Grade 3 has higher mechanical strength, while maintaining very good weldability and formability. The material is often used in the process industry, marine environments, heat exchangers and industrial applications where increased strength is required without compromising corrosion resistance.
Titanium Grade 3 has a hexagonal (HCP) crystal structure and a slightly higher oxygen content than Grade 1 and 2, which provides improved strength. The material is still unalloyed and retains the natural advantages of commercially pure titanium, such as good toughness, high corrosion resistance and reliable weldability.
- Type: Unalloyed, commercially pure titanium
- Purity: ≈99.3% Ti
- Structure: HCP (hexagonal close-packed)
- Designations: Titanium Grade 3, CP Grade 3, Titanium Grade 3, UNS R50550, Werkstoffnr 3.7055, ASTM B265, ASTM B348, AMS 4943
Chemical & Process industry
Pipes, tanks, heat exchangers and components in corrosive chemical environments.
Marine & Offshore
Components exposed to seawater and marine atmospheres where both strength and corrosion resistance are required.
Paper & Pulp
Bleaching and chemical handling equipment where long service life is essential.
Industrial applications
Pressure vessels, piping systems and mechanical components with moderate load requirements.
Titanium Grade 3 forms a stable and self-healing oxide film that provides excellent protection against corrosion in most oxidizing and chloride-based environments, even with prolonged exposure.
