1.4462, also known as Duplex 2205, is a duplex stainless steel that combines high strength with very good corrosion resistance.
The material consists of a balanced microstructure of ferrite and austenite, which provides both high mechanical strength and good resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-containing environments.
Duplex 2205 is often used in the chemical industry, offshore environments, energy industry and marine applications where both strength and corrosion resistance are crucial.
Duplex 2205 combines the advantages of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. The duplex microstructure provides high strength and improved resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
Due to high levels of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen, the alloy also has very good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
Duplex 2205 has very good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments.
The duplex structure also provides improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking compared to many austenitic stainless steels.
