Alloy 17-4 is a martensitic, precipitation hardening stainless steel that combines the corrosion resistance of stainless steel with high tensile strength, hardness and toughness. It maintains strength and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures and offers excellent creep rupture properties. Compared to conventional martensitic stainless steels, Alloy 17-4 is more weldable and easier to machine, making it a versatile and cost-effective material for demanding applications.
Common uses for Alloy 17-4:
- Aerospace and motorsports components requiring high strength and corrosion resistance
- Oil and gas equipment such as gate valves, pump housings, gears and pistons
- Valve stems, bushings, balls and seats used in high-pressure environments
- Fasteners and mechanical parts where reliability is critical
