NIMONIC 901 is an age-hardenable nickel-iron-chromium superalloy developed for applications requiring high strength, good creep resistance and good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.
The alloy contains significant additions of molybdenum, titanium and aluminium. Molybdenum contributes to solid solution hardening, while titanium and aluminum provide precipitation hardening and thus high mechanical performance.
NIMONIC 901 is primarily used in gas turbine engines and other high-performance systems where the material is exposed to high temperatures and high mechanical loads for a long time.
NIMONIC 901 is an age-hardenable Ni-Fe-Cr superalloy with a high yield strength and good creep resistance at temperatures up to approximately 600 degrees C.
The relatively high iron content provides good forgeability and allows the alloy to combine high strength with good machinability in forging form. The material is often used as a forging blank for discs, shafts and rings.
NIMONIC 901 offers good oxidation resistance and is used in environments where both temperature and mechanical stress are high.
The alloy is primarily chosen for its combination of strength, creep resistance and good formability rather than for extreme corrosion resistance in the most aggressive chemical environments. This is a material engineering conclusion based on how the alloy is specified and used in available data sheets.
